Lauren Margolis

Lauren Margolis joined the KETK team in January of 2021. Originally from South Florida, Lauren is excited to call East Texas her new home.

Lauren is a December 2020 graduate from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Broadcast Journalism.

Growing up, she always knew she wanted a career in journalism, and feels fortunate to have reached that goal at KETK.

At UCF, Lauren was a reporter for UCF Knightly News and NSM Today, covering topics like the 2020 election and the Coronavirus pandemic. She also interned at WKMG News 6, the CBS affiliate in Orlando where her passion for news grew bigger. Lauren believes that helping people share their experiences is the most rewarding part of being a reporter.

Her favorite stories to cover in Central Florida were anything related to Disney World! Lauren has a Disney Annual Pass and visits the happiest place on Earth any chance she gets!

Lauren always had a natural curiosity. As a child, she would borrow her mother’s cell phone, and go around taking videos of everything, interviewing her friends and family on camera. By middle school and through high school, Lauren was already in front of the camera, anchoring her school’s morning announcements. Needless to say, being a reporter for Lauren was years in the making. Her preschool teacher even predicted Lauren’s career path, nicknaming her D.J. for her love of providing commentary and narration of the day’s activities.

Lauren has a love for children and spent many summers volunteering at the same preschool she attended. She plans to use her platform to show kids that they can make their dreams a reality. Hard work always pays off, and no dream is ever too big.

Starting at just two years old, Lauren channeled her never ending energy into dance, trying many styles before focusing on ballet. At 13, she was honored to be chosen to perform at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, starring in productions like Peter and the Wolf, Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker.

Lauren also loves musical theater and grew up seeing many Broadway shows in New York City. Some of her favorite shows include Wicked, Hairspray and Newsies.

Lauren is very grateful to all of her mentors and professors at UCF, who provided support and guidance. Following their advice, Lauren traded her cap and gown for a press pass and mic just weeks after her commencement ceremony. She feels blessed to have met her goal of landing a job before graduation.

While the decision to move away from her family and friends was a scary one, Lauren had no doubt this is where she was meant to be. The KETK family made her feel at home from the start, and so many welcoming East Texans demonstrated why Texas is known as “The Friendly State”

Now, living her dream as a TV reporter, Lauren is ready to tell YOUR stories. If Lauren can get even one person she meets everyday to smile, her day would feel complete.
