UPDATE: The Smith County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man wanted in a manhunt that happened near Interstate 20 on Friday.

Devoria Hardy, 21 of Fort Worth, fled from a car he was driving after initially being stopped by a Smith County K-9 Deputy on Interstate 20 near FM 849 around 1:45 p.m. on Friday, officials said.

As the deputy approached the vehicle during the stop, Hardy sped away heading east on I-20, according to a press release. The deputy then started a pursuit and said he saw Hardy attempt to pass a car in the left lane, enter the center median, lose control of the vehicle and hit a concrete barrier.

Officials said the car then careened across the eastbound lanes and bottomed out in a ditch between I-20 and Loop 49. It was at this point that Hardy left the vehicle and a passenger who stayed behind was quickly detained, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Precinct 5 Constable’s Office, Texas DPS Troopers and Lindale Police Department all arrived to set up a perimeter to arrest Hardy, officials said. Witnesses and an off-duty Metroplex officer helped deputies figure out what way Hardy was heading.

Hardy was found shortly thereafter in the woods northwest of Loop 49 and I-20 under some pine straw officials said he was trying to hide himself with.

The vehicle contained two handguns, a 50 round drum magazine, several thousand dollars and THC products, officials said. The passenger, Cordre Tolliver, 21 of Shreveport, Louisiana and Hardy were both arrested for various charges including possession of a controlled substance, evading arrest detention in a vehicle and outstanding warrants, officials said.

Both are being held in the Smith County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.
