UPDATE: 1 dead after 2 people shot Monday night in Palestine; shooter on loose

PALESTINE, Texas (KETK) – One of two people found shot Monday afternoon in a SUV that crashed into a tree in Palestine has died.

The victim is Justice Harris, 25, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, said information from the office of Justice of the Peace James Westley.

The other shooting victim remains in Palestine Regional Medical Center. The identity of the hospitalized man had not been released as of Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities are still looking for the shooter.

“Based on what we know now, this is an isolated incident,” Chief Mark Harcrow said. “We do have reason to believe that the suspect was known to the victims.”

Police were called to the 2100 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard about 6 p.m. Monday and found the SUV had crashed into a tree. The two shooting victims were inside and taken to the hospital.

Police also received reports of shots being fired and a person running from the scene.
