Victims identified in possible gang-related shooting in Smith County; suspect still at large

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – The victims of an early Monday morning shooting that left two dead and another injured in Smith County, have been identified, along with a suspect in the case.

The incident happened in the 5300 block of Hwy 110 North shortly after midnight.

Deputies found the bodies of two Hispanic men in the front yard of a house. The two people that died in the shooting have been identified as Justino Rosales-Betancourt, 32, and Jose Betancourt, 35.

“They knew one another. They were or at least had a relationship in this manner. This is believed to be, i’m not going to go into detail about it, but it’s believed to be gang related,” said Sheriff Larry Smith.

Sheriff Smith says both men have gang tattoos and were undocumented immigrants according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The third victim, who suffered non-life threatening injuries has been identified as Saul Morado, 20. He was taken to UT Health in Tyler by private vehicle.

Officials are searching for Ramiro Ortiz, 34, of Tyler, who is still at large. An arrest warrant for the charge of murder has been obtained.
