SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – A four vehicle accident on Highway 110 Monday morning claimed the life of a Tyler man, according to DPS.

According to officials, a 2017 Honda Civic was turning onto SH 110 from Meadow Cemetery Road. DPS said the Civic turned in front of a 2018 Ford Explorer that was traveling southbound on SH 110.

The Civic then struck a 2020 Chevrolet Suburban that was traveling northbound on SH 110, and officials said the suburban then struck a 2021 Peterbilt Truck-Trailer (towing a trailer) traveling northbound on SH 110.

The initial report indicates no injuries were reported to the driver of the truck-trailer and the drivers of the explorer and suburban were transported to an area hospital with non-incapacitating injuries. 94-year-old Charles Calahan of Tyler was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
