CASS COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – Law enforcement agencies in East Texas are searching for a man who escaped from the Cass County Jail on Monday night, and is a person of interest in a double homicide.
Officials said that Charles Obin Spraberry, 44, produced a homemade knife, “assaulted a male jailer and made his way to the booking area located at the front of the jail. Spraberry then forced a female jailer to open the door to the outside, and fled on foot.”
As of Tuesday, multiple law enforcement agencies are reported to be searching for him, and felony escape warrants have been issued for his arrest.
He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and white boxer shorts, and is believed to have broke out of jail using a handmade knife.
“Spraberry was incarcerated and faces charges for multiple felonies including sexual assault, assault by strangulation, assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, and kidnapping,” officials said.
In March, Spraberry was captured in South Louisiana and labeled as a person of interest in a double homicide where a man and woman were found shot to death in a burned-out trailer.
Cass County officials said Spraberry is also a person of interest in multiple felonies. If you see Spraberry or have any information, authorities said to call 911 immediately.
