According Sgt. Larry Christian, forensic evidence from the autopsy performed by Forensic Medical in Tyler has revealed that the shooting was, in fact, not a murder-suicide, but a double suicide.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – Smith County officials identified the two people found dead in a truck on the side of a county road last Friday morning.
The two people were identified as Cody Russell Lovelady Jr. of Flint, and Jarah Breann Shelton of Tyler, both 21 years old.
They were found dead in a black Ford F-250 that was stopped on the side of FM 2868 near Highway 155.
At approximately 11:15 a.m., a Smith County deputy investigated a black Ford F-250 that was stopped on the side of FM 2868 near Highway 155. As the deputy approached the vehicle, he noticed that it was still running and when he checked inside the vehicle, he discovered a white female in the driver’s seat holding a handgun.
Upon further investigation, the deputy realized that the woman was dead before he noticed a white male next to her who was also deceased.
“All indications right now make it appear to be some sort of a murder-suicide,” Sgt. Larry Christian said.
Investigators said there were no witnesses to the event and they are awaiting autopsy results. The bodies have been identified but the sheriff’s office is withholding that information for now to make sure the next of kin can first be notified.
Smith County Investigators and the Crime Scene Unit are on location at this time. This continues to be an active investigation and more information will be disseminated as it becomes suitable for release.
