Jackson Adams died from his injuries in the car accident. According to Wills Point ISD, Adams was a “beloved student” and was extremely active in their theatre arts program. He was recently awarded Best Performer in the 4A UIL One-Act Play Competition. Jackson was also a member of the school’s culinary arts department.
The district said that the accident happened on Highway 80 and FM 2965. Wills Point PD said that the wreck involved a passenger car and an 18-wheeler.
According to WPPD, it became apparent that the driver of the passenger vehicle was dead at the scene and the remaining three passengers were taken to the hospital in stable condition. The driver of the 18-wheeler was evaluated and released at the scene, police said.
WPISD will have additional counselors available for the remainder of the week to talk with any students who need support.
“We ask that you show kindness and compassion to those around you as we walk through this together,” said Superintendent Scott Caloss.
The Wills Point Police Department also extended their deepest condolences to all families involved.
“As the days to come will be days no one will forget, we as the Wills Point Police Department along with the Wills Point Independent School District Police Department, want anyone and everyone to know we are here for you!!” according to a statement from WPPD.
A memorial will be held on Friday at 8 p.m. at the high school baseball field parking lot.
“The seniors would like to pay our respects to this bright light that was extinguished much too soon!” according to a post from Wills Point High School.
