Longview Police K9 Indio receives donated armor

News
The Longview Police Department received a generous donation for one of their canine officers. K9 officer Indio will receive a bullet proof and stab protective vest. This is all thanks to the non-profit Vested Interest in K9’s Inc.

The vest is sponsored by Amy Dingler of the Protecting Pups group in Longview. The organization’s mission is to provide protective vests, and other assistance to law enforcement dogs in the U.S. Since 2009, Vested Interest in K9’s has provided more than 1,900 in 49 states, which has cost more than $1.6 million.

Kristie Brian, Public Information Officer for the Longview Police Department said, “It’s covers them up. It’s kind of like the vests that we wear, to cover up our vital organs to try and protect them.”

Brian said they have been very thankful of the support the community has shown for their canine officers. She added they will be getting two more vests for their other canine officers, and they should be delivered within 8 to 10 weeks.
