NOTE: On June 11, Gregg County changed the way it reported its numbers of COVID-19 cases. Health officials subtracted numbers they had previously included for jail inmates, citing the fact that no other county included jail/prison case numbers in their counts. As a result, Gregg County subtracted 51 cases from the total it had previously reported and dropped its number to 284. Since then, the county’s numbers have risen from 284 to 299, an increase of 15 cases in five days.

The county suffered its 13 death Monday and the first not associated with a nursing home. The deceased patient was a female in her 60s and died at home.

Camp County also reported its first death due to COVID-19.

June 12 – Titus County Judge announces 18 new cases of COVID-19

Titus County Judge Brian Lee announced 20 new cases of COVID-19 in his county, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 655.

The county leads East Texas in the number of COVID-19 cases with almost twice as many as Gregg County, which is second highest at 332 cases.

However, Titus County continues to have a low death rate from the virus, with only three fatalities to date.

Lee also reported an estimated 200 recoveries.

June 9 – Titus County up to 635 total COVID-19 cases, most only with light symptoms

MT. PLEASANT, Texas (KETK) – Titus County Judge Brian Lee announced Tuesday morning that the county was up to 635 cases of coronavirus, by far more than any other county.

Despite the rather high number for a jurisdiction with only 32,000 residents, there is currently only one patient at Titus Regional Medical Center, according to Lee. The patient is not on a ventilator.

There are 199 recovered patients in the county. Even with the high number of cases, Titus County has only had three confirmed death from the virus while other counties with much lower cases numbers have had several times the amount of deaths.

Nacogdoches County confirmed its 21st death from the coronavirus Thursday afternoon. It also added four new cases of the virus to bring its total up to 291.

June 4 – Titus County case count up to 576, nursing home tests 100% negative

Titus County confirmed 35 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday on the first day of free testing, according to Judge Brian Lee. The case count is up to 576, by far the highest in Texas.

The Greenhill Villas Nursing Home in Mount Pleasant had every resident tested and all came back negative.

May 29 – Titus County crosses 400-case milestone, Lee expects at least 100 more in coming days

Titus County Judge Brian Lee announced Friday morning that 34 new coronavirus patients had tested positive, bringing the county’s total to 400.

Judge Lee said that there are larger numbers on the state’s Department of Health website, but he has yet to receive official confirmation from anyone at the state level. He expects when he finally does that the case count will climb to 500.

May 29 – East Texas counties add new COVID-19 cases, Harrison County adds 1 new death

Harrison County Judge Chad Sims announced that while his county has no new cases to report, it has suffered the loss of another resident.

The county has suffered 24 deaths from COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. It has 242 confirmed cases and an estimated 80 recoveries.

Angelina County & Cities Helath District has reported 18 new cases of COVID-19 for the counties it covers.

Angelina County has 10 new cases, bringing its total to 203. The county has suffered four deaths and has an estimated 90 recoveries.

Polk County has two new cases, bringing its total to 55. The county has 20 estimated recoveries.

San Augustine County has six new cases, bringing its total to 37. It has suffered two deaths and has an estimated 14 recoveries.

Gregg County now has its 6th death after a new one was reported on Wednesday. They also jumped 14 cases bringing the total to 201.

May 27 – Panola County adds 2 new COVID-19 cases

Panola County Judge LeeAnn Jones announced Wednesday morning that two more cases of coronavirus had been confirmed as well as two new recoveries.

Panola now sits at 196 total cases along with 22 deaths. There have been 61 recoveries in the area. Many of the cases and deaths have been at the Briarcliff nursing home. 72 patients have come down with the virus and 11 have died.

Titus County confirmed another 67 cases of coronavirus on Tuesday to bring the small East Texas jurisdiction to 366 total. Judge Brian Lee made the announcement on his Facebook early Wednesday morning.

Longview Mayor Andy Mack has announced the fifth death in Longview and Gregg County to COVID-19. He said he did not have any details beyond the fact that the deceased was a Longview resident. Mack’s announcement brings the number of deaths in East Texas to COVID-19 to 94.

Harrison County Judge Chad Sims has reported five new cases of COVID-19 in his county and one new death from the illness. The new cases bring the county’s total number of cases to 228 and the number of deaths to 23.

Harrison County leads East Texas in the number of deaths from COVID-19.

The county has 60 estimated recoveries.

May 21 – Titus County sees 61 new cases of COVID-19

Titus County is reporting 61 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

County Judge Brian Lee reported on Facebook that the county now has a total of 220 confirmed cases, up from the 159 he reported Tuesday.

Lee said there is a “significant connection” in the numbers to the local Pilgrim’s Pride poultry processing plant, but that “other industry/plant connections are apparent as well.”

The numbers do not include test results from area nursing homes or Pilgrim’s Pride conducted earlier this week.

Shelby County reported 8 new cases, bringing its total to 183.

Center is the hardest hit by the virus, with 132 cases. The remaining cases are split between Tenaha, Timpson, Shelbyville, and Joaquin.

May 21 – Nacogdoches County Sheriff reports 1st jail inmate with COVID-19

Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason bridges reported his jail’s first inmate confirmed to have COVID-19. The inmate, who is asymptomatic, was confirmed positive Wednesday afternoon.

He has been transported to a COVID-19 jail facility in Kilgore operated jointly by the Gregg and Smith County sheriffs and will remain there until he is recovered.

May 20 – Cherokee County up to 38 cases after two new patients confirmed at state facility

Cherokee County Public Health announced in a release Wednesday morning that two more case of COVID-19 had been confirmed for the area. This brings the total up to 38 total.

There are currently 19 active cases in the county and 15 are located at a state facility. The facility is not identified by the health department.

Cherokee County reported its 2nd death from the coronavirus Tuesday morning. It was the 87th in East Texas. They also had two new cases of the virus to bring them to 36 total with 17 active.

Panola County announced its 21st death from the coronavirus early in the morning. Nine new cases were also confirmed. The county accounts for the most deaths in East Texas from the virus, despite a population of just over 23,000.

May 18 – NET Health release new COVID-19 numbers

NET Health reported 19 new cases in five of the seven counties they cover. Smith County reported three new cases bringing total to 192. Wood County reported four new cases bringing total to 22 and their first death. Gregg County Health District reported five new cases bringing their total to 182 with a fourth death. Van Zandt County added one case bringing their total to 23. Anderson County jumped six cases bringing their total to 60.

May 18 – Gregg County reports 4th death, new cases

A fourth death was confirmed in the Longview area. NET Health has the total number of coronavirus cases in Gregg County at 173 while the Gregg County health district has the total number at 182.

May 18 – Wood County confirms first COVID-19 death

NET Health confirmed the first COVID-19 related death in Wood County on Monday.

An additional four cases were also reported bringing the total to 22 with 11 recoveries. Community spread has been related to 21 cases and one case has been reported as travel-related.

May 18 – Harrison County report 4 fatalities, 3 new cases

Three positive cases were reported bringing the total to 212.

Four fatalities were confirmed bringing the total to 19. According to officials, all fatalities have occured in the 60+ age group with an average age of 85-years-old.

Four new recoveries were reported bringing the total to 34. Recoveries are determined by a patient’s physician.

Harrison County Judge Chad Sims reported the county’s 15th death to COVID-19. In good news, he said the county had no new cases to report and has 30 recoveries.

May 16 – Titus County hits triple digits in COVID-19 cases

Titus County joined the company of East Texas counties with 100 or more COVID-19 cases Saturday when Judge Brian Lee reported 100 confirmed cases Saturday. In Facebook posts and videos, he has attributed the growth of numbers to industry spread, or spread among employees of the county’s various manufacturing and food processing plants.

The county has suffered one death to date, of county resident Juan Soto.

Gregg County reported its third death to COVID-19, a female nursing home resident in her 80s. The death comes amid a spike in case numbers, with the county reporting 26 new cases Thursday to bring its total to 177.

Harrison County reported three new deaths from COVID-19, bringing its total of deaths to 14. The county also reported six new cases, bringing that total to 207.

With the new deaths, Harrison County becomes the East Texas county with the highest number of reported fatalities from COVID-19.

SHELBY COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – The Texas Department of State Health Services has confirmed six new cases of COVID-19 in Shelby County.

The new cases bring the county’s total to 158.

The county has suffered five deaths from COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, and has 81 recoveries.

May 12 – Angelina, Polk, San Augustine Counties report new cases

Angelina County added 2 cases, bringing its total to 119. The county has suffered 1 death, has 4 patients hospitalized, and is reporting 30 patients recovered.
Polk County has added 5 cases, bringing its total to 40. It has 16 recoveries.
San Augustine County has 1 new case, bringing its total to 22. The county has suffered 1 death, has 2 patients hospitalized, and has 11 patients recovered.

The new numbers, released Tuesday evening, lifted the East Texas region over the 1,700 mark to 1,703 confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

Nacogdoches County reported 3 new cases, bringing its total to 220. The county continues to lead East Texas in the number of confirmed cases, and is tied with Bowie and Harrison County for the most number of deaths at 11 each.

The county also reported 2 new recoveries, bringing that number to 69.

Harrison County Judge Chad Sims has announced eight new cases of COVID-19 in his county.

Four new cases were announced, bringing the county’s total to 22. The cases are all classified as community spread, and the patients are isolating at home.

Seven new cases were confirmed bringing the total to 185. The number of recoveries increased by 19 bringing the total to 125. That means that 67.6% of individuals who have reported of the coronavirus in Smith County have now recovered.

Titus County Judge Brian Lee has announced the county’s first death from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

Lee also reported the county’s 40th case of COVID-19, a male in the 20-29 year old age range.

May 9 – Shelby County COVID-19 cases increase to 149

Shelby County has seen its number of confirmed COVID-19 cases increase from 129 to 149 since Tuesday.

The latest figure of 149 has been confirmed by the Texas State Department of State Health Services.

The county has suffered four deaths from the virus, and reports 70 cases as recovered. About 425 tests have been administered.

May 9 – Panola County revises COVID-19 numbers down

Panola County Judge LeeAnn Jones has revised her county’s number of COVID-19 cases down from a high of 168 to 159.

In a Facebook post, Jones said she is making the revision after going over information about patients listed for her county and discovering that several of them were nurses who do not live in the county.

Those nurses, who work at one or more of the local nursing homes affected by the virus, live in Shelby County, according to Jones.

Angelina County announced its first death in the spread of COVID-19 and added 7 new cases of COVID-19, bringing its total to 107.

The county has 19 recovered patients.

May 8 – Harrison County reports 2 new deaths, 12 new cases of COVID-19

Harrison County Judge Chad Sims reported two new deaths from COVID-19 in his county and 12 new cases.

“Today, with a heavy heart, I do report 2 more fatalities plus 12 new positive cases of the coronavirus in Harrison County,” Sims posted on Facebook. “That brings our totals to 184 positive cases, 11 fatalities and 18 recoveries. Many are affected directly by this virus, not only lives but livelihoods. Please remember all those affected in your prayers.”

The county has suffered 11 deaths from COVID-19.

Anderson County Judge Robert Johnston has received notification today of five new confirmed cases for a total of 46 COVID-19 cases.

The county has 9 recovered cases.

Panola County Judge LeeAnn Jones announced Wednesday morning that 25 cases of COVID-19 were over-reported, resulting in a slightly inflated number for the area.

Judge Jones said that the real number as of this writing is now at 166, down from 191 entering Wednesday.

74 of those cases are at Briarcliff nursing home in Carthage, which has faced backlash for its response to the virus.

Gregg County jumped seven cases with a new total at 107. They also reported five new recoveries with a total of 47. That is almost 44% of cases that have recovered.

NET Health reported one new case in Henderson County bringing the total to 33. They had no new recoveries, which sits at six.

Anderson County jumped four cases with a total of 38. They also reported five new recoveries bringing the total to nine.

A second resident in Longview has died from the coronavirus bringing the total number of deaths in Gregg County to two.

Longview Mayor Andy Mack reported five new cases in the city along with the new death. That brings the total cases in Gregg County to 100 with 43 recoveries.

May 2 – Gregg County reports its first death from COVID-19

The number of deaths from COVID-19 in East Texas rose by 1 Saturday when Gregg County announced that a nursing home resident had died of the virus.

The patient had bee hospitalized a week ago for symptoms resembling a stroke and was later diagnosed with COVID-19.

The patient, a woman in her 70s, was Gregg County’s first recorded death from the virus.

Longview Mayor Andy Mack also reported 2 new cases in Longview, bringing the city’s total to 66 and Gregg County’s total to 89.

May 2 – Panola County adds 13 new cases to its tally

Panola County raised its total of COVID-19 cases to 190 Saturday when officials there announced 13 new cases. The county leads East Texas in the number of cases.

May 2 – Smith County Sheriff’s Office reports 2 new cases in the jail

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office reported two new COVID-19 cases in the jail, one an inmate and one a detention officer. Both cases were from the north jail facility, where all current positive COVID-19 cases have originated.

The inmate has been transported to a secure facility at the Gregg County Jail where the four additional positive Smith County inmates are quarantined. The Detention Officer has been under self-quarantine in a residence since the time of the exhibited symptoms. This brings the total to six Smith County Jail personnel who have tested positive for COVID-19 with one who has fully recovered.

Van Zandt County Judge Don Kirkpatrick has reported a new case of COVID-19, bringing the county’s total to 15.

The new case is located in the city of Van and is classified as community spread. The patient is hospitalized.

Nacogdoches County is reporting 10 new cases of COVID-19, bringing its total to 158.

Panola County Judge reported 28 new cases in the county.

With 28 additional cases, Panola County now leads East Texas in the COVID-19 case count at 168. Nacogdoches County follows behind at 148 cases with Smith County coming up at 142.

Judge Jones said of those 28, four have been confirmed from the mobile testing opportunities over the weekend.

Nacogdoches County reported 14 new cases bringing the total to 137 with 32 recoveries. Six of the new cases are from three different households and two of the cases are in two households that had cases confirmed previously.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – The Northeast Texas Public Health District has reported new COVID-19 cases for Anderson and Gregg as of Saturday.

Anderson County has one new case, bringing its total to 19.

Gregg County has 3 new cases, bringing its total to 66.

April 25 – Nacogdoches County reports 9 new cases of COVID-19

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – Nacogdoches County is reporting nine new cases of COVID-19.

The new cases bring the county’s total to 122 as of Saturday morning. Of those, 20 have recovered, leaving 95 active cases.

Five of the new cases are from two households, and one is from a previously reported household.

To date, Nacogdoches County has suffered seven deaths.

The Henderson County Emergency Management Office is reporting two new cases of COVID-19 in the county.

These two new cases bring the Henderson County total to 24.

April 24 – Smith County confirms 1 new COVID-19 patient, more than half of cases have recovered

Smith County announced Friday afternoon that one new case of coronavirus has been confirmed to bring the total to 132.

Of those 132 patients, 76 of them have recovered, which is more than half.

Smith County still leads all East Texas counties with the highest number of cases. The only other to reach triple digits as of this writing is Nacogdoches.

April 24 – Nacogdoches, Gregg Counties announce new numbers

Nacogdoches confirmed two new cases to push them to 113 total, the second-highest in East Texas. They are both females, one aged 30-39 and the other 60-69.

The county also has the highest death count in the region with 7.

Gregg County reported five new cases, bringing its total to 63.

Of those cases, 38 patients have recovered, according to the Gregg County Health Department.

Cherokee County announced an additional coroanvirus cases was confirmed to bring their total to 13.

The statement was sent out in a release by the county’s public health department on Friday. Earlier on Thursday, the department also said that six of the cases had met the definition of recovery.

The 13th case was acquired through community spread, according to the department.

Panola County Judge LeeAnn Jones reported 13 cases on Thursday bringing the total to 64 with four recoveries. They are still at five deaths with four being residents in a Carthage senior facility.

The Harrison County Judge has announced a new death in the county due to COVID-19 and three new cases. The three new cases bring the county’s tally to 63. The latest death was the county’s seventh. Judge Chad Sims also announced that the county has six patients who have recovered from COVID-19.

A staff member at Willoughby Juvenile Center has tested positive for COVID-19, as has an inmate in the county jail. The sheriff’s office is working on getting testing done for inmates and staff as well as taking all necessary precautions to prevent further spread, according to Sims.

Panola County Judge LeeAnn Jones has confirmed an additional seven coronavirus cases bringing the total to 44 with three recoveries. She also reported another death bringing the total to five.

The most recent death was the fourth at the Briarcliff Skilled Nursing Center in Carthage. Two resident deaths were reported on April 14 with the third reported on April 20. That makes four of the five deaths in Panola County, residents at the senior nursing facility.

The Nacogdoches County Emergency Management Office has reported a new cases of COVID-19, bringing the county’s tally to 90. In information released Tuesday, EMO said the new patient is a 70-79-year-old male. His travel history and hospitalization status is unknown.

A fourth death has been reported in Panola County and was a resident at Briarcliff Skilled Nursing Center in Carthage.

Their first death was a resident in Panola County and reported on April 3 with the first two deaths of Briarcliff reported on April 14.

April 18 – Titus County gets 9th case, judge issues face mask order

Titus County Judge Brian Lee issued an order requiring county residents to wear face masks when shopping or buying food.

The order, issued Saturday, came in response to the county’s 9th announced case of COVID-19 and to what Lee described as county residents “relaxing” their efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus.

“I know we’ll get a lot of pushback” on the order, Lee said, “and this really goes against my beliefs. But I do believe the time has come for this.”

April 18 – Smith County reports 5 new cases

Smith County has reported five new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 121.

Of the new cases, four are in Tyler and the fifth is in Lindale. Four of the new patients are male and one is female.

The county has suffered two deaths from the virus, while 53 cases are reported as recovered.

April 18 – Anderson County reports 2 new cases

Anderson County Judge Robert Johnston is reporting two new cases of COVID-19 in Anderson County, bringing the total there to eight.

The county has one recovered case to date, leaving seven active cases.

All patients are in home isolation under the care of a physician.

Of the active cases, one is classified as travel-related, four are classified as exposure in a workplace, and two are currently under review with NetHealth as to the cause of exposure.

NET Health has confirmed another COVID-19 case in Van Zandt County bringing the total to 12. The case is confirmed to be community spread and the individual is home in isolation.

According to the Texas DSHS website, San Augustine has confirmed an additional three more cases bringing the total to 14.

April 17 – Houston County reports first 3 cases of COVID-19

Houston County, which had been one of two remaining counties free of COVID-19, joined a much longer list Friday evening when County Judge Jim Lovell reported that three cases had been confirmed in the county.

Lovell said the confirmation came from a local hospital rather than the Texas Department of State Health Services.

“However,” he wrote in a Facebook post, “we do not want to hold back any information that we believe to be correct.”

April 17 – Nacogdoches County reports 10 new cases

The county reported first 1 new case Friday afternoon, then later updated that with 9 more, giving the day a grim tally of 10 new cases and bringing the county’s total to 82.

Harrison County Judge Chad Sims has reported five new COVID-19 cases in the county and two more deaths from the illness.

These numbers bring the county’s total case count to 41 with 4 deaths.

Marion County Judge Leward LaFleur says “more details are being gathered” about how a local woman with a confirmed case of COVID-19 was not reported to the Texas Department of Health Services after learning about it through a social media post.

The individual has since recovered according to a Facebook post.

A second death was reported by Panola County Judge LeeAnn Jones. The individual was a resident at Briarcliff Skilled Nursing Center. There has been no information released on if the person is a male or female or how they contracted the virus.

Cherokee County confirmed its ninth case of coronavirus Tuesday morning in a release sent to multiple media outlets. The county public health office said that six of the nine cases have been through community spread while the other three were from recent travel.

According to the Texas DSHS website, Shelby County reported two more cases bringing the total to 36 in the county and 458 in East Texas.

Panola County Judge LeeAnn Jones confirmed an additional case bringing the total to 18 in the county and 456 in East Texas.

April 13 – Gregg County cases increase by 3

The Gregg County Health Department confirmed an additional three cases, bringing the total to 42.

The East Texas total now sits at 455.

April 13 – Nacogdoches County reports 3 cases, 1 death

Three more cases have been reported in Nacogdoches County for a total of 50, according to the emergency management office.

They also confirmed a fourth death, bringing the total of deaths in East Texas to 17.

Camp County emergency managent reported two more cases bringing the total in the county to five and the total in East Texas to 448.

April 13 – Harrison County jumps 15 cases

Harrison County Judge Chad Sims confirmed 15 additional cases of COVID-19 bringing the county to 31. Of the total cases, 24 are in Marshall and 7 are outside of city limits. Harrison County also has 2 fatalities, one of which was reported on Monday.

April 13 – Angelina County grows by 1 cases

Angelina County reported an additional case bringing the total to 17 in the county and 431 in East Texas.

April 13 – Trinity County increases by 1

Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace confirmed an additional case on Monday.

The cases are a male in his 50s, a male in his 70s, a female in her mis 60s, and a 26-year-old female.

That brings the total to four and East Texas to 430.

Smith County reported five additional cases bringing the total to 101. The East Texas total is now at 429.

April 13 – Harrison County reports 2nd death

A second person in Harrison County has died from the coronavirus, according to Judge Chad Sims. It is the 16 person to died from COVID-19 in East Texas. Bowie County leads the region in deaths with five overall.

April 13 – Cherokee reports 8th case

Cherokee County added its eighth case of coronavirus, according to a release from the county’s public health office. Of the eight cases, five are community spread and three are travel-related. East Texas is now at 409 cases.

April 12 – Panola County increases in COVID-19 cases

According to Panola County Judge, three more cases have bgeen confirmed bringing the total to 17.

The total in East Texas is 408.

April 12 – Nacogdoches County reports additional case

Nacogdoches County has reported an additional case bringing the total to 47.

The individual is a 70-79 female and is not hospitalized. The East Texas total is at 404.

April 12 – Polk County confirms 9th COVID-19 case

Polk County confirmed a 9th case. That brings the total in East Texas to 403.

April 12 – Shelby County grows in cases

According to the Texas DSHS website, Shelby County has confirmed an additional 11 cases making the total 32 in the county.

That brings the total in East Texas to 402.

April 12 – Upshur County reports 2 new cases, up to 8

The Upshur County Office of Emergency Management confirmed two new cases of coronavirus on Sunday. This brings them to 8 total.

There are currently 391 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in East Texas.

April 11 – Harrison County reports 2 new cases of COVID-19, both in Marshall

The Marshall-Harrison County Health District is reporting two COVID-19 positive cases.

Both are categorized as community spread. They and the two reported Saturday are all in Marshall.

Harrison County’s total is now 16. The City of Marshall has a current total of 10 positive cases with one fatality.

East Texas now has 381 cases of COVID-19.

April 11 – Rusk County reports 1 new case of COVID-19

The Rusk County Office of Emergency Management has reported one new confirmed case of COVID-19, bringing the total in that county to 15.

The county also is reporting one patient recovered from the illness.

The new patient is female, 55 years old, who is hospitalized. She lives in the northern part of the county, south of Kilgore.

East Texas has 381 cases, with 15 deaths.

April 11 – Nacogdoches County reports 10 new COVID-19 cases

The Texas Department of State Health Services has confirmed 10 new cases of COVID-19 in Nacogdoches County for a total of 46.

The county has recorded 3 deaths from the illness.

The numbers bring the total in East Texas to 380, with 15 deaths.

April 11 – Smith County reports 3 new COVID-19 cases, bringing total to 96

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – NET Health is reporting three new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Smith County, bringing the total number to 96.

The county has suffered two deaths from the illness.

According to NET Health, 23 patients in Smith County have recovered, leaving 71 active cases.

The Smith County cases bring the total number in East Texas to 370.

April 11 – Gregg County adds to confirmed COVID-19 cases to tally

NET Health has confirmed two additional cases of COVID-19 in Gregg County, bringing the count there to 39 and the number in East Texas to 367.

The updated count shows 34 cases in Longview, 3 in White Oak, and 2 in Kilgore. The patients are predominantly male, with 22 infected, while 17 are women. The age group with the most cases is 40-49, with 21 cases, while others are 0-20 – 1, 21-40 – 11, and 60-79 – 5.

In good news, the county has recorded no deaths from the virus.

Panola County Judge LeeAnn Jones confirmed the 14th COVID-19 case.

April 10 – Harrison, Morris Counties report new cases of COVID-19

Harrison and Morris Counties have reported three new cases of COVID-19 combined, bringing the East Texas total to 365.

Harrison County is reporting two new cases, bringing that county’s total to 14.

Morris County is reporting one new case, bringing its total to three.

East Texas counties reporting cases are:

April 10 – Nacogdoches County reports 5 new cases

Nacogdoches County reported five new cases of COVID-19, bringing the county total to 36.

The new patients are a 50-59 year old male, a 40-49 year old male, a 30-39 year old female, and two 30-39 year old males.

Information on their travel history and hospitalization status was not provided.

To date, the county has recorded three deaths from the virus.

April 10 – Smith County reports 5 new cases of COVID-19

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – NET Health is reporting five new cases of COVID-19 in Smith County.

The new cases bring the number in the county to 93 positive cases with two deaths.

There are 23 cases that are reported as recovered.

The new cases bring the total in East Texas to 357.

April 10 – Bowie, Henderson Counties report six new cases; East Texas over 350 cases

Bowie and Henderson Counties both announced new cases numbers Friday afternoon, which brought East Texas’ total case numbers to over 350.

Bowie County added four new cases to bring their grand total to 41 while Henderson County added two additional ones to get them into double digits with 10.

April 10 – Anderson County reports 3rd COVID-19 case

Anderson County Judge Robert Johnson reported the county’s third confirmed case of COVID-19.

All three patients are at home under the care of a physician. Two of the three cases are classified as travel-related, and the third was acquired at work at a location outside of Anderson County.

The new case puts the total in East Texas at 346.

April 9 – Cherokee County reports 1st COVID-19 death

Cherokee County is reporting its first death from COVID-19.

“It is with sadness that we announce that one of Cherokee County’s residents has passed away from complications relating to COVID-19,” said a release from the county. “The individual had been hospitalized and had underlying medical conditions. We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones.

The total cases in East Texas still sits at 343.

April 9 – Henderson County report 2 more cases

Henderson County Emergency Management have confirmed 2 more COVID-19 cases bringing the total to eight. The individual is at home and in stable condition.

The East Texas total is at 343.

Van Zandt Judge Chris Martin reported two more COVID-19 cases bringing the total to 10. The cases have been confirmed as community spread and the individuals are currently at home in isolation.

Titus County Judge Brian Lee confirmed a 5th and 6th case. That brings the total in East Texas to 333.

April 9 – Bowie County grows by 2 cases

Bowie County Emergency Operation Center released two confirmation of COVID-19 cases bringing the total to 37 in the county.

The total in East Texas has grown to 330.

April 9 – Smith County cases increase to 88, 23 patients recovered

During a press conference on Thursday, officials released information regarding the cases in Smith County.

NET Health confirmed six additional cases bringing the total to 88. Of the total, 51 are currently hospitalized.

Officials have talked with 30 individuals between march 11-30 where 23 of them have recovered.

The total in East Texas is 328.

April 9 – Shelby County reports 6 more case, Morris grows by 1

According to the Texas DSHS website, Shelby County has increased by 6 cases. That brings the total to 321 in East Texas.

April 9 – Wood County and Gregg County report new cases

Wood County reported one case and Gregg County 2 cases respectively.

Wood County is now at 5 cases and Gregg County is at 37.

The new cases bring the East Texas total count to 315.

April 8 – Longview adds three cases to Gregg County’s list

Longview Mayor Andy Mack reported three additional cases in the city, which have been added to Gregg County’s total. The total in Longview is 26 and the total in Gregg County has been increased to 35 as of this time.

The total in East Texas is 312.

April 8 – San Augustine County cases increase to 7

The Angelina County Health District has confirmed three additional cases in San Augustine County. So far, 18 people have been tested and of those, 7 are positive.

Health officials have confirmed that the cases are coming from the same area, but did not release a location.

That brings the total in East Teexas to 309.

April 8 – Van Zandt County reports 8th case

Van Zandt Judge Chris Martin confirmed an 8th case in the county. The invidual has exposure to another person who was positive for COVID-19 and is in isolation at home. That brings the total to 306 in East Texas.

April 8 – Trinity County reports 3rd case

Trinity County Judge Richard Steptoe confirmed a 3rd case Wednesday afternoon. The individual is a 26-year-old female. All three cases have not traveled out of Trinity County and are presumed to be from community spread. they are being self-quarantined.

That brings the total to 305 in East Texas.

April 8 – Bowie County reports 3 cases, 4 deaths

Bowie County Judge Bobby Howell reported three additional cases and four more deaths on Wednesday, April 8. The first death in Bowie County was reported on March 30, which was the third in East Texas. Now the total number of cases in Bowie County is 35 with 5 total deaths.

Judge Howell also issued other restrictions found below:

Four employees at the Bowie County Jail also tested positive and one pod of inmates has been isolated as a precaution after coming in contact with a positive employee.

Shelby County Judge Allison Harbison confirmed five more COVID-19 cases to a local newspaper, bringing the total to 17. Of the 17, she says six are hospitalized. That brings the total in East Texas to 301.

Camp County Judge AJ Mason confirmed a third COVID-19 case in the county. No additional information has been given.

April 8 – Harrison County reports 12th case

Harrison County has added their 12th case of coronavirus, according to Judge Chad Sims. In an update, the county revealed they have tested 240 people total as of Tuesday night. 181 have tested negative while they are awaiting results from 48 others.

April 8 – Upshur County adds 6th case

Upshur County has confirmed a sixth case of COVID-19, according to the Office of Emergency Mangaement.

The patient is a 50-59-year-old male who lives outside the Gilmer city limits in the central part of the county. East Texas now stands at 283 cases.

Nacogdoches County reported an additional COVID-19 case. The individual is a female between 50-59 years of age.

That brings the total number of cases in Nacogdoches County to 25 and East Texas to 282.

Gregg County has reported four new cases of COVID-19, bringing that county’s total to 32. Rusk County reported 1, bringing its total to 14.

The Rusk County patient lives in the Pine Hill area. The case is considered travel related.

NET Health confirmed Rains County has its first coronavirus case on Tuesday. The individual is currently at home in isolation. That makes 276 cases in East Texas.

NET Health has confirmed 13 more COVID-19 cases bringing the total in Smith County to 75. Eight of the individuals were exposed due to community spread with 50 of the current Smith County cases under the age of 60. That brings the total in East Texas to 246.

Rusk County OEM reported its 13th COVID-19 case. The individual is located in the Garrison area and is currently in self-quarantine. Officials suspect the case to be community spread. That brings the total number of cases in East Texas to 233.

Harrison County has reported five more COVID-19 cases bringing the total to 11 in the county. Van Zandt County reported an additional two cases of COVID-19 bringing the total to seven.

April 6 – Bowie County reports 5 more coronavirus cases

Bowie County announced five new coronavirus cases Monday afternoon in a statement released from the Bowie & Cass County Joint Operations Center. It brings the county to 27 total with 225 in East Texas.

The release includes age ranges of the patients which showed that a slight majority of those infected were under the age of 50.

April 6 – Gregg County announces 6 additional cases, Polk County adds 8th

Longview Mayor Andy Mack announced Monday morning that Gregg County had confirmed six additional cases to bring them to 23 total.

Polk County announced an additional case that brought them to eight total. That brings the total in East Texas to 219.

Angelina County & Cities Health District have confirmed an additional case. That brings the total to 14 in the county.

April 5 – Wood County confirms 2nd, 3rd case

Wood County Judge Lucy Hebron confirmed two more cases bringing the total to 3 in the county.

April 5 – Second death reported in Smith County related to COVID-19, total cases hit 200 mark

Smith County reported 5 new confirmed cases and a second death, Henderson County and Nacogdoches County each reported 2 more.

The new death in Smith County was of a 56 year-old male who NET Health announced as the single confirmed case of COVID-19 in the city of Troup.

“Our prayers and our sympathy are extended to the family during the time of their tragic loss,” said Troup Mayor Joe Carlyle.

The new cases take East Texas across the 200-case marker to 205. Nine people have died.

Longview Mayor Andy Mack reported an additional COVID-19 case bringing the total to 17 in the county.

April 4- Hopkins County reports 4th case, believed to be community spread

Hopkins County announced on Saturday their fourth confirmed case of COVID-19 and health officials said in a statement that it is believed to be community spread.

No other biographical information was available about the patient. The Office of Emergency Management has been quarantined and will continue to be isolated.

There are now 190 cases in East Texas.

Anderson County Judge Johnson issued a stay-at-home order for residents, effective immediately.

The order was in response to Gov. Abbott’s executive order that extended social distancing requirements until April 30. Abbott’s order was NOT a statewide order.

The Anderson County declaration will not require a travel document for residents.

Two more cases have been reported in Harrison County. One of the cases is travel-related and the second is still under investigation. The total in Harrison County is five with a total in East Texas at 115.

According to Longview Mayor Andy Mack, one of the Gregg County confirmed cases has been determined to be a resident of Rusk County. That leaves the official count for Gregg County at seven cases.

Rusk County OEM confirmed two additional cases. One case is in Overton with the other in Laneville. Both are travel-related. That brings the total to 110 in East Texas.

April 1 – Cass County confirms additional case, extends stay-at-home order

Cass County Judge Becky Wilbanks confirmed a fourth case of COVID-19 in Cass County. Two of those four have recovered. That brings the total to 109 in East Texas. Judge Wilbanks also signed a continuation of her stay-at-home order. It will take effect at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, April 2 through April 30.

April 1 – Smith County reports additional 5 cases

Smith County has added five new cases of coronavirus, according to a release from local health officials. This brings the county to 42 total.

That brings the total to 108 in East Texas.

April 1 – Fourth East Texan dies from COVID-19

A Harrison County resident passed away from the coronavirus at a Longview hospital on Wednesday, becoming the fourth East Texan to die from the virus.

It is unknown if the victim had any underlying medical conditions. All three previous victims had pre-existing conditions and ranged in age from 47-91.

April 1 – Gregg County reports two additional cases

Longview Mayor Andy Mack announced on Facebook Wednesday morning that two more coronavirus cases had been confirmed.

That brings the total to 102 in East Texas.

According to Longview Mayor Andy Mack, one of the Gregg County confirmed cases has been determined to be a resident of Rusk County. That leaves the official count for Gregg County at seven cases.

April 1 – East Texas reaches 100 coronavirus cases after Panola County confirmation

Panola County confirmed their third case of COVID-19 which brought the region to 100 total cases.

April 1 – Wood County issues stay-at-home order until further notice

Wood County Judge Hebron issued a stay-at-home order that would begin at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday night. Hebron ordered that residents stay home unless conducting business that was deemed “essential.”

The order is in effect until Gov. Abbott terminates the Texas Disaster Declaration.

Cherokee County Health Department confirmed a fifth case Wednesday.

That brings the total to 99 in East Texas.

March 31 – Smith County confirm additional case, count up to 37

NET Health confirmed an additional case in Smith County, bringing the total to 37. A total of five cases were confirmed on Tuesday in Smith County. Three of the individuals had traveled outside East Texas recently with the remaining exposed to community spread.

That brings the total to 98 in East Texas.

March 31 – Panola County confirms 2nd case

Only hours after reporting its first confirmed case of COVID-19, Panola County added a second case to its tally. Panola County Judge Lee Ann Jones confirmed the second case Tuesday evening.

That brings the total to 97 in East Texas.

March 31 – Cherokee County reports 4th case

Cherokee County Public Health Department has confirmed a fourth case in the county. The individual traveled within the United States and officials are working to contact anyone who has come in contact with them.

That brings the total to 96 in East Texas.

The Rusk County Office of Emergency Management has confirmed a fourth case of COVID-19 in the county. According to officials, the case is in Kilgore and does not appear to be travel related. That brings the total to 95 in East Texas.

Anderson County Judge Robert Johnston confirmed the first case of COVID-19 in the county. The patient is quarantined at home and the case is travel related. That brings the total to 94 in East Texas.

March 31 – Harrison County, Marshall issue ‘shelter-in-place’ order after 2 new cases

Harrison County Judge Chad Sims and City of Marshall Mayor Terri Brown have confirmed two new cases of COVID-19 in Harrison County. In each case, the cause of COVID-19 exposure was travel-related.

In an effort to slow community spread of the illness, Sims and Brown have each issued stay at home orders for residents of Marshall and Harrison County effective Tuesday at 11:59 p.m.

That brings the total to 91 in East Texas.

March 31 – Angelina County reports new case

Angelina County & Cities Health District reported a new case of COVID-19. That brings the total to 89.

March 31 – Gov. Abbott extends social distancing order, schools closed until May 4

Gov. Abbott announced that he would be extending his social distancing executive order until April 30 just two days after President Trump extended federal guidelines. Schools will also be closed until May 4.

March 31 – Whitehouse community member tests positive for COVID-19

Smith County and NET Health announced a member of the Whitehouse community has tested positive for the coronavirus.

“The situation with COVID-19 outbreak is rapidly changing and spreading,” said Mayor Charles Parker. “It is critical that the community continue to heed the Stay-At-Home order, social distancing recommendations and take personal hygiene seriously. This will be the key to ensuring that this virus doesn’t spread.”

Officials are working to isolate the patient and are investigating those that may have come in contact with them.

San Augustine and Panola Counties each announced their first cases. That brings the total to 80 in East Texas.

Nacogdoches County Emergency Management Office reported two additional cases. That brings the total to four in Nacogdoches County and 78 in East Texas.

The Cherokee County Public Health Department confirmed the third case in the county. The individual has traveled within the United States and officials are working to contact anyone who has had contact with them.

The Angelina County and Cities Health District reported three additional cases in Polk County. That brings the total to 75 in East Texas.

The Angelina County and Cities Health District reported a fourth case on Monday in Angelina County. That brings the total to 72 in East Texas.

March 30 – Bowie County reports 1st death, 3rd in East Texas

A Texarkana woman has passed away after medical complications from the coronavirus, according to a report from the Texarkana-Gazette and Bowie County officials. The woman was 70-year-old Brenda Joyce Ciganeiro and the paper cites her husband saying she had been admitted to the hospital three weeks ago with double pneumonia.

Due to social distancing restrictions, the paper reports that Ciganeiro could not have visitors in her final days, including her husband of 37 years.

That brings the total to 71 in East Texas.

March 30 – Bowie County reports third East Texas death, 6 new cases

Bowie County health officials reported one death and six new cases on Monday. This brings the total of cases to 71 in East Texas.

March 30 – Camp County reports 1st case

Camp County Emergency Management confirmed the first case of COVID-19 in the county. Judge AJ Mason did not give any information regarding the patient or if the case was community spread or travel-related.

This brings the total to 65 in East Texas.

March 30 – Smith County reports 32nd case

NET Health confirmed on its website Monday morning that Smith County is up to 32 cases of coronavirus, up one from Sunday. It is the 64th confirmed case of coronavirus in East Texas, meaning that Smith County still accounts for half of the cases in the Piney Woods.

That brings the total to 64 in East Texas.

March 30 – Upshur County reports 2nd case

Upshur County has confirmed its second case of coronavirus, according to Judge Todd Tefteller. The case was confirmed on Sunday and Tefteller said that the case resides in the Gilmer city limits. That brings the total to 63 in East Texas.

March 29 – Van Zandt County confirms 2nd case

Van Zandt District Judge Chris Martin confirmed a second coronavirus case in the county. The new case has evidence of community spread but was exposed outside Van Zandt County. Judge Martin said the risk in the county remains low and there is no evidence of community spread within the county at this time.

The first case in the county was reported on March 18, but the individual died on March 28.

This brings the total to 62 in East Texas.

March 29 – Shelby County confirms 2nd case

Shelby County has confirmed its 2nd case of the coronavirus, in a statement released by Judge Allison Harbison. She said the case appears to be community spread but no additional information has been given. This brings the total in East Texas to 61.

March 29 – Gregg County confirms 5th COVID-19 case

Longview Mayor Andy Mack confirmed an additional coronavirus case in Gregg County. This brings the total to five in Gregg County and 60 in East Texas. There is no information regarding the patient or if the case in travel-based or community spread.

March 29 – Gov. Abbott restricts travel from Louisiana

“My prior executive order about travel from New Orleans covered air travel from New Orleans into the state of Texas,” said Abbott. “Now I am updating that executive order to also include travel by road and that is travel by road from any location in the State of Louisiana.”

Essential traffic will be allowed through including commercial activity, military, critical infrastructure, and medical.

The Texas Department of Public Safety will issue traffic stops and people will be required to self-quarantined for 14 days if you are found coming from Louisiana.

NET Health confirmed four new cases of COVID-19 in Smith County. This brings the total to 59 in East Texas.

Cherokee County is reporting its second case of COVID-19. The case is travel-related, according to the Cherokee County Public Health Department, and the patient is recovering at home under isolation. This brings the total number of cases in East Texas to 55.

Angelina County and Cities Health District have confirmed two additional COVID-19 cases in Angelina County. That brings the total to three in the county.

Franklin County Judge Scott Lee announced that the first case of COVID-19 in his jurisdiction had been confirmed.

March 28 – Second East Texan dies from COVID-19

A second East Texan passed away as a result of the coronavirus. The victim was identified as a 47-year-old woman in Van Zandt County.

Along with the first death reported in East Texas, Smith County confirmed six more cases. This brings the total to 46 in East Texas.

March 27 – Smith County issues stay-at-home order

Smith County Judge Nathaniel Moran issued a “stay-at-home” order for Smith County that will last two weeks. After initially only wanting to make such a declaration as a “last resort”, Moran relented just four days later.

The county currently makes up nearly 60 percent of all coronavirus cases in East Texas.

Many essential businesses remain open, including gas stations and grocery stores. Tyler police say they will not pull anyone over asking for documentation of being an “essential employee.”

The city of Kilgore has issued a shelter in place order. While Gregg County issued a shelter in place on Wednesday, March 25, parts of Kilgore fall out of the jurisdiction. That initiated Kilgore May Ronnie Spradlin to issue his own executive order of shelter in place for residents. The order goes into effect Thursday, March 26 at 11:59 p.m. and ends on April 9.

March 26 – Texarkana issues mandatory curfew

Texarkana leaders have announced a mandatory curfew in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus and for the safety of the community. The curfew will be enforced starting Thursday, March 26. Under the curfew, everyone is required to be in the house from 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. unless traveling to and from work, the hospital, medical appointments, or the pharmacy. The curfew is set to remain in effect until further notice.
